Synergy Project Conference, Abu Dhabi, June 2024

In June, Andrew Wright our Business Development Manager attended the inaugural Synergy Conference at The W Hotel on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi. The hotel is right on the F1 track – a stunning location for the conference. Andrew was one of 60 attendees who gathered from around the globe.

Two project cargo groups, one meet up

The event pulled together the International Freight Logistics Network (IFLN) and the Largo+ project network. It was an opportunity to meet members of both groups at a single location.

  • The IFLN Network was founded in 2000 in Houston with 270 members. It covers general cargo, projects and pharma freight. The Synergy Conference catered to those IFLN members who were also members of the project vertical.

  • Largo+ is a relatively new network founded in 2021 that focuses on Project forwarders with a membership of around 80 and growing. It has a stringent entry requirement ensuring members have peace of mind that they are dealing with experienced and proven project cargo forwarders, FPS has been a member since 2022.

Making connections

A welcome function presented an opportunity to mingle informally and meet other members.

Other meetings were one-to-one, in what is best described as “speed dating for freight forwarders”. Andrew met with around 25 members representing project-specific companies.

On track for success

Delegates were treated to an evening of kart racing in the F1 facility. Andrew says he’s still on the fence about that. It was 30 degrees Celsius in the evening. Driving in a race suit with a full-face helmet seemed more like a session in a sauna than a kart race! However, laughter and the post-race banter made the sweat worthwhile.

Good news for FPS customers

The delegates made many new contacts and grew their international networks. Our project cargo customers receive great service because of these relationships as we move their freight around the world.

Andrew leads our project cargo team and has many years of industry experience but sometimes our business is as much about who you know as what you know. With project cargo, the stakes are high so we need to ensure we are working with people and organisations we can trust. Attending conferences such as Synergy and being part of international project networks like Largo+ provides a vital link.

We look forward to the next Synergy project conference in Munich in 2025.
